Man injured by landmine in Aghdam loses part of leg updated

A man was seriously injured after detonating a landmine in the Aghdam District, resulting in the loss of part of his leg.

Medical officials at Barda Central District Hospital, where the victim was taken for treatment, told Caliber.Az that doctors diagnosed him with a blast-related traumatic amputation affecting the lower third of his left leg.

The patient remains under medical care, and his condition is currently assessed as moderate.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and ANAMA have issued a joint statement on a mine incident that occurred on March 26 in the village of Yusifjanli in the Aghdam district.

According to the statement, cited by Caliber.Az, a local resident, Jeyhun Firdovsi oglu Abbasov (born in 1985), was injured after stepping on an anti-personnel mine. The explosion occurred in an area along the former line of contact that has not yet been cleared of mines, resulting in an injury to his left leg.

The Aghdam District Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the incident.

The statement also emphasised ongoing risks in formerly conflict-affected areas, with state authorities again urging the public to strictly observe safety regulations, heed mine warning signs, and avoid entering territories that have not been cleared.

A landmine explosion injured a man in the village of Yusifjanli in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district on March 26, 2026.

According to domestic media, the victim has been identified as local resident Jeyhun Firdovsi oglu Abbasov, born in 1985, who stepped on a landmine in the area.

Emergency response teams from the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) were dispatched to the scene, where efforts are ongoing to evacuate the injured man.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
