Macron welcomes agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia
French President Emmanuel Macron has welcomed the agreement reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the text of a peace treaty.
French leader shared his support for the development on his X page, Caliber.Az reports.
"I welcome the announcement of the conclusion of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan," he said.
According to him, "there are now no remaining obstacles to the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which should pave the way for a lasting peace in the South Caucasus."
To recall, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on March 13 that negotiations on the draft Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan have concluded, with both sides agreeing on the text.
Speaking to journalists, Pashinyan emphasised the transparency of the process, stating that the agreement’s contents have been shared in various forms. While the document is ready for signing, discussions on the date and location are yet to begin.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the progress but reiterated its condition for Armenia to amend its constitution to remove territorial claims. The dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group is also among the key issues expected to be addressed before the signing.
