Maduro tells son government “doing what needs to be done”
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said in a phone call that the country’s government is “doing exactly what needs to be done,” his son, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, told Caraota Digital.
According to his son, the leader of the republic believes that the government is “taking the first steps.”
“Our calm here is the unity of the people and unity with the high command and my team, which is the team of the homeland,” Maduro’s son quoted him as saying.
On January 3, the United States carried out strikes on Venezuela: explosions were reported in the capital, Caracas, and at the Fort Tiuna military base. Following the attacks, US President Donald Trump described the operation as successful and stated that American forces had captured Maduro and his wife. The head of the White House stressed that Maduro was “no longer president” and that the United States would assume control of Venezuela “until power is transferred.”
On January 5, 2026, Maduro went on trial on charges of running a drug cartel and other crimes. He now faces multiple life sentences.
