Magnitude 4.0 earthquake jolts Türkiye’s Çanakkale
A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck the Aegean Sea off the coast of the Ayvacık district in Türkiye’s Çanakkale Province, the Earthquake Department of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), announced.
AFAD reported that the tremor occurred at 14:28 local time, with the epicenter located offshore near Ayvacık at a depth of 17.49 kilometers (10.8 miles), Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
The earthquake was felt not only in parts of northwestern Türkiye but also across the Aegean Sea on Greece’s Lesbos island, prompting brief concern among residents. No immediate reports of casualties or material damage have been issued by authorities in either country.
In recent weeks, Türkiye has experienced a series of small-to-moderate earthquakes across various regions, particularly in the Aegean and eastern parts of the country, underscoring the area’s high seismic activity.
