Massive Russian air assault targets Ukraine with over 500 aerial weapons PHOTO
Russia launched a large-scale overnight strike on Ukraine involving more than 500 drones and missiles, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced.
On the night of May 18, Russia carried out a combined attack on Ukrainian territory using attack drones and ground-launched missiles.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said Ukraine’s Air Force radio-technical troops detected a total of 546 aerial attack vehicles, including 22 missiles and 524 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These included 14 Iskander-M / S-400 ballistic missiles and 8 Iskander-K cruise missiles. The remaining aerial targets were attack drones of the “Shahed,” “Gerbera,” and “Italmas” types, as well as “Parody” decoy drones.
Ukraine’s air defence response involved aviation units, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the country’s defence forces.
According to preliminary data as of 08:30, air defences shot down or suppressed 507 targets — including 4 missiles and 503 drones of various types, among them 4 Iskander-K cruise missiles and 503 UAVs.
The General Staff reported that strikes were recorded at 34 locations, involving 18 missiles and 16 attack drones, while debris from downed UAVs fell across 11 additional sites.
“The attack is ongoing, with several enemy UAVs still in the air,” the Armed Forces General Staff said.
