Massive Russian strike hits Kyiv, killing four and injuring 25 PHOTO
Damage and fires have been recorded in nearly all districts of Kyiv following a massive Russian attack, with both injuries and fatalities reported, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
According to the latest data from the State Emergency Service, four people were killed and 25 were injured. Klitschko specified that among the wounded are a child and a pregnant woman.
“Three of the injured are in hospital in serious condition,” he added.
The mayor also provided detailed information about the damage across the capital.
In the Obolon district, several residential buildings and warehouses were damaged. Fires broke out at the sites where debris fell, and 30 vehicles were burned. According to the State Emergency Service, a strike hit a nine-story building in the area.
In the Podil district, fires caused by falling debris broke out in a private residential house and a three-story building.
In the Solomianskyi district, residential buildings were damaged. There was also a fire reported on the grounds of an educational institution. “A strike hit a 9-story residential building. Firefighters extinguished the fire and evacuated 15 people, including 2 children,” the State Emergency Service said.
In the Pechersk district, residential buildings and non-residential structures were damaged. A fire broke out in a dormitory. There was also a fire on the grounds of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra — the roof of the Dormition Cathedral caught fire. The State Emergency Service added that a 17-story residential building was hit, where firefighters extinguished the blaze.
In the Dniprovskyi district, residential buildings were also damaged by falling debris.
In the Desnianskyi district, a nine-story residential building was hit, causing a fire. As a result of falling debris, three private houses were destroyed. Fires also broke out in open areas and on the grounds of a kindergarten.
In the Holosiivskyi district, fires broke out in warehouses. A residential building and an infrastructure facility were also damaged.
In the Darnytskyi district, debris fell in open areas.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, residential buildings were damaged, including an eight-story residential building that was hit, as well as infrastructure facilities and enterprises. In particular, according to rescuers, a fire broke out at a vegetable market.
As a result of the attack, power lines were damaged, leaving 140,000 subscribers in the northern part of the capital without electricity.
At around 1 a.m. on June 15, Russian forces began the aerial attack on Kyiv. It was immediately reported that the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was hit — specifically the Dormition Cathedral.
