Mastering maritime combat: Azerbaijani special forces excel in joint training with Türkiye PHOTO

21 November 2024 11:14

As part of the 2024 training schedule, Azerbaijani and Turkish naval forces are conducting joint maritime exercises — SAT-SAS-2024 — focused on honing skills in ship seizure and combat operations at Türkiye’s Aksaz Naval Base in Marmaris.

According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence, the elite naval special forces displayed exceptional precision and expertise in executing simulated ship seizures, demonstrating their advanced capabilities, Caliber.Az reports.

This joint operation highlights the strength of cooperation between the two nations, further strengthening their strategic ties.

Over the next few days, the special forces will engage in a series of intensive drills designed to perfect tactics for both land and sea combat. These exercises will include aerial assaults via helicopter, the capture of coastal territory, and the identification and neutralization of underwater mines and unexploded ordnance. The exercise is scheduled to run until November 29.

Earlier this year, Azerbaijan and Türkiye also conducted the Mustafa Kemal Ataturk-2023 joint military exercises from October 23-25.

The drills, which involved 3,000 military personnel from both countries, took place in various locations across Azerbaijan, including the capital Baku, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and regions liberated following the 44-day war with Armenia in 2020.

The exercises made use of a range of equipment, including armoured vehicles, artillery, aviation and flight gear, as well as small boats.

These comprehensive drills aim to enhance coordination among diverse military units, improve the deployment of forces in hostile terrain, and build the technical capacity to manage strategic infrastructure, such as pontoon bridges, in simulated conflict zones.
