Media: British detainees in Iran fear for lives amid executions, prison violence
A British couple detained in Iran say they fear for their lives due to harsh prison conditions, violence and executions inside the facility.
Lindsay and Craig Foreman, both 53 and from East Sussex, were sentenced in February to 10 years in prison on charges of spying for the United Kingdom and Israel, Caliber.Az reports, citing SkyNews.
They were detained in January 2025 during a round-the-world motorcycle trip.
The couple are being held in Tehran’s Evin Prison, where they say conditions are extremely harsh, citing limited access to medical care, poor sanitation and restricted contact with the outside world.
They deny the charges.
In a diary, Lindsay Foreman described the accusations as “a joke, lies and absurdity” and said she expected a prolonged imprisonment, detailing harsh conditions including proximity to inmates on death row.
Craig Foreman said that four fellow inmates had been executed during his detention and described incidents of violence and fights among prisoners.
He said some inmates are taken away for execution after so-called “family visits,” with news of their deaths coming later.
“We are innocent people… Just take action. Speak out. Get us out,” he said.
According to the couple, the prison has also become potentially dangerous following the start of military strikes on Iran.
The UK Foreign Office described the sentence as “appalling” and said it is taking steps to secure their release while providing consular assistance.
