Media: Ex-Ukrainian PM could be jailed for 10 years for bribing lawmakers
Former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko has emerged as a key figure in an investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office into the alleged bribery of members of parliament.
If the allegations are confirmed, Tymoshenko could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years under Ukrainian law, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media outlets.
New details circulating in Ukrainian political circles indicate that law enforcement officers are conducting searches at the office of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc (BYuT).
According to sources cited by Ukrainian media, the investigation centers on suspected offers of informal affiliation with BYuT in exchange for financial compensation, with Tymoshenko reportedly under suspicion.
The sources claimed that some lawmakers documented the alleged negotiations, accepted the funds offered to them, and subsequently reported the matter to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. These materials reportedly formed the basis of the ongoing investigation.
