Media: No Aoun-Netanyahu meeting planned during Washington visits
There are no plans for Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to meet during their upcoming visits to Washington, Kuwaiti newspaper Al Jarida reported on July 16, citing informed sources.
The report said speculation that the two leaders could hold talks, or that their simultaneous presence in the U.S. capital reflected a "political trap" or "secret agreements", was unfounded.
According to the sources, the overlap in their visits is purely coincidental and stems from their respective schedules.
Aoun is expected to arrive in Washington on July 21 for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump. Netanyahu, meanwhile, is due to travel to the U.S. capital to attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham, the report said.
Al Jarida said Aoun's meeting with Trump will include senior U.S. administration officials. The Lebanese president is also expected to hold separate meetings with U.S. officials responsible for Lebanon and broader regional affairs.
