Media: Poland, Romania detain Ukrainians in Russian plot to smuggle explosives
Authorities in Poland and Romania have detained Ukrainian citizens working for Russian intelligence who planned to transport explosives into Ukraine, with the aim of triggering explosions during transit, RFM24 reports.
Polish investigators concluded that the suspects were preparing Russian intelligence operations until October 16, 2025. According to the prosecutor’s office, the shipments were designed to ignite or explode spontaneously during transportation.
The intended goal of the plot was to intimidate the population and destabilise countries in the European Union that support Ukraine. However, the shipments were intercepted by Romanian security services before any detonation occurred.
A Ukrainian citizen, Danylo H., was arrested in Poland and charged with participating in Russian intelligence activities and preparing terrorist sabotage. Investigators said the suspect acted in coordination with others, carrying out assignments for Russian intelligence services. The Warsaw District Court has ordered Danylo H. to be held in custody for three months.
At the same time, Romanian authorities detained two additional Ukrainian citizens collaborating with Danylo H. The Romanian court has placed them in custody for 30 days.
