Trump says more casualties possible after three US troops killed in Iran operation
President Donald Trump said on March 1 that further casualties are possible after three U.S. service members were killed during the ongoing U.S. military operation involving Iran, CNN reports.
In a phone interview with the Daily Mail, Trump described the fallen troops as “great people,” adding: “And, you know, we expect that to happen, unfortunately. Could happen continuous — it could happen again.”
Speaking separately to NBC News, the president acknowledged the losses, stating: “We have three, but we expect casualties, but in the end it’s going to be a great deal for the world.”
Trump said he plans to meet with the families of the deceased service members “at the appropriate time.” He also indicated he would “maybe” travel to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware for the dignified transfer of the troops’ remains, or alternatively invite their families to the White House.
