Media: Romanian president may nominate IMF economist Delia Velculescu as PM
Romanian President Nicușor Dan is considering the possibility of nominating economist Delia Velculescu as prime minister as part of discussions on forming a technocratic government following consultations with parliamentary parties and efforts to secure a stable parliamentary majority.
Sources within the presidential administration described her as a tough and disciplined negotiator, Caliber.Az reports, citing Romanian media.
Although Velculescu is little known to the general public in Romania, she is regarded in international financial circles as a highly respected expert due to her more than 20 years of experience at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
She has worked on economic programmes for Greece, Cyprus and Iceland, and participated in crisis negotiations during Greece’s sovereign debt crisis.
In 2015, she led the IMF negotiating team in Athens, gaining wide international media attention.
Velculescu later headed the IMF mission in South Africa, further strengthening her reputation as a specialist in managing complex economic crises.
Amid Romania’s efforts to ensure political and economic stability, her name is once again being considered as a potential candidate for the post of head of government.
