Media: Trump administration concerned NATO long-range weapons could escalate war
The Trump administration has raised concerns that deploying NATO long-range missiles capable of striking deep inside Russian territory could escalate the war, prompting European allies to accelerate efforts to develop their own long-range strike capabilities, according to The Economist.
The publication says some officials in President Donald Trump's administration have also suggested the United States may be unwilling to defend the Baltic states in the event of a conflict, fueling broader concerns in Europe about Washington's long-term security commitments.
The administration has canceled the planned deployment to Germany of a U.S. military unit equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, which have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers. It has also reportedly delayed Germany's order for Tomahawk missiles and briefly restricted allies' access to the most advanced artificial intelligence models.
The Trump administration continues to unsettle European politics by promoting hard-right narratives across the continent.
