Media: Ukraine to receive first payments from €90 billion EU aid no earlier than June
Ukraine is not expected to receive the first disbursements from the European Union’s planned €90 billion loan package before June 2026, despite earlier indications that funds could arrive next week, according to media reports citing sources in Brussels.
Sources told Ukrainian outlet European Pravda that the initial payments — including €5.9 billion in military support and €3.2 billion in macro-financial assistance for Ukraine’s state budget — are now expected at the beginning of June.
The report contradicts remarks made on May 11 by EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, who had said the first tranche could be released as early as next week.
According to the sources, three key documents required to launch the financing mechanism are still being finalised. These include the €90 billion loan agreement, an amendment to the Ukraine Facility programme, and a memorandum on macro-financial assistance, which is said to be in the final stage of preparation.
The next tranche under the Ukraine Facility mechanism, linked to legislation adopted by Ukraine in April 2026, is also expected to be released in early June, the report said.
