Military expert: Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran warn Armenia

27 October 2023 12:00

Armenian military expert Hayk Nahapetyan has said that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan brought EU observers for two months, then their term was extended, but they are all representatives of the special services and intelligence officers.

Nahapetyan was commenting on Pashinyan’s statement about the diversification of Armenia’s security, which he voiced in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

“During the so-called Armenian-US exercises, special forces from the 101st division of the Pentagon arrived in Armenia, and how many left is another question. There were also representatives of the Rescue Service in Armenia, who were also NATO representatives,” the expert told journalists, Caliber.Az reports.

“In fact, Pashinyan is gradually inviting various personnel from NATO member states, who must perform some functions here secretly. As for the agreement on military-technical cooperation with France, Armenia not only purchases weapons, the agreement also envisages the work with officers and non-commissioned officers of military educational institutions. Isn’t it obvious that besides the military-technical component, there are also educational and personnel components?” he noted.

The expert said that in other words, Pashinyan is taking steps to change the security situation by increasing the number of representatives of NATO member states in Armenia.

“That is, they are making specific changes on the spot. Russia and Iran see this very well. The direct presence of NATO representatives in Armenia is a red line for Iran, but Iran also understands that NATO is penetrating into Armenia invisibly. I think Iranian intelligence may know about everything. There is a decision, and I think that Pashinyan did not make this decision, it was made by the military-political leadership of countries unfriendly to Armenia,” Nahapetyan said.

The expert added that according to this decision, Armenia must become NATO territory, which must create problems for southern Russia, as well as for Iran.

“Therefore, these two countries react quite harshly even to a small number of observers and military exercises. They know that this is a process, the end result and goal of which is the removal of the 102nd military base from here and its replacement with NATO troops, French weapons and their trainers,” Nahapetyan said.

“By the way, even the Azerbaijani leader said that French intervention here is fraught with a resumption of war or hostilities. It is not a coincidence that the meeting was held in the “3+3” format. At least four participating countries oppose attracting forces and countries from outside. Meanwhile, the Armenian authorities are dealing with it. This is a red line for at least four countries from the “3+3” group. In fact, it turns out that Pashinyan is bringing the Western and NATO forces into the region, which could have devastating consequences for Armenia. Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan are always warning us about this,” the expert said.
