Rafah militia vows to replace Hamas rule, claims coordination with Palestine
The deputy commander of Yasser Abu Shabab's "Popular Forces" in Rafah, Ghassan Al-Dahini, has declared that the group will intensify its operations against Hamas, asserting its intention to establish a new governing structure in the southern Gaza city.
Dahini stated that the group, led by Yasser Abu Shabab, is committed to a "clear vision for the next phase" centred on an ongoing escalation with Hamas, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
He claimed that recent militant activities have targeted Hamas operatives, portraying these efforts as part of a broader initiative to “restore security and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.”
“Our objective is to eliminate these elements to ensure the safety of civilians,” Dahini said, adding that the group views its campaign as a necessary step toward “pursuing criminals and protecting the property of the residents of the Gaza Strip.”
Yasser Abu Shabab, who appeared in a recent video, claimed that his forces have taken control of areas he described as “liberated from Hamas.” He also confirmed coordination with the Palestinian Authority in distributing humanitarian aid and safeguarding civilians.
Abu Shabab further explained the controversial presence of his forces in territories currently under Israeli control, stating it was “a choice dictated by circumstances, not a subjective decision.”
