Minister: Armenia sees rising flow of goods via Azerbaijan

04 April 2026 15:05

Armenia is seeing a growing volume of goods transiting through Azerbaijan, according to Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan.

Speaking to local media, as cited by Caliber.Az, Papoyan said that while Armenia imports a limited number of goods of Azerbaijani origin — specifically gasoline and diesel fuel — the flow of various products through Azerbaijani territory has become increasingly frequent.

“Armenia receives 1–2 goods of Azerbaijani origin: gasoline and diesel fuel, and almost every day something arrives through Azerbaijan,” Papoyan stated. “For example, one of the supermarket chains, ‘Nor Zovk,’ has applied to import semolina through the territory of Azerbaijan; another organisation has applied to import Russian coal; a third imports grain; a fourth is already importing fertilisers. This has already become a very widespread phenomenon. I have already lost count of how many goods have to be transported.”

Papoyan also confirmed that there is potential for Armenian exports to Azerbaijan. He revealed that a specific inquiry had been made by the Azerbaijani side regarding aluminium foil products.

“There are such products. There was a specific request for foil, and for that specific foil, the Azerbaijani side requested a specific price, and our producer provided it,” he said. “In other words, they said: we are interested in foil of a certain thickness; could you tell us in what volume, within what timeframe, and at what price you can supply it? Our producer provided the volume and price; we have not yet received a response,” he said.
