Minnesota State Senate's youngest, first Muslim female member inaugurated
Born in 1997, the first and youngest Muslim woman to be elected to the Minnesota State Senate of the USA, Mohamed has been recorded as one of the three black representatives elected to the Senate of this state for the first time at the same time.
Mohamed’s personal website states that she comes from a lower-class family and that her mother works 16 hours a day in a factory to earn money, TRT Haber reports.
Mohamed, a Somali immigrant, is a member of the Democratic Party and aims to be the voice of disadvantaged groups in the Senate.
Previously, Ilhan Omar, a Somali immigrant, also served as a member of the House of Representatives in Minnesota. Omar, who was elected to the US Congress in 2018, retained his seat in Congress in the 2022 midterm elections.
