Moldova, US deepen dialogue on Ukraine, regional stability
Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi held a meeting in Washington with Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy to Ukraine, the minister announced on his Facebook page.
During the discussions, the two sides examined Moldova’s current challenges, the ongoing war in Ukraine, regional security developments, and prospects for strengthening cooperation with the United States, Caliber.Az reports.
Popșoi underscored the urgency of bringing the war in Ukraine to an end and establishing a durable peace grounded in full respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Regarding the situation in Ukraine, I stressed that it is important to end the war as soon as possible and establish a lasting peace based on respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. I underlined that the Republic of Moldova firmly stands with the Ukrainian people,” Popșoi wrote.
He added that, with the support of Moldova’s strategic partners, the delegation presented ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening the country’s resilience and reinforcing state institutions.
Popșoi also reported holding a productive meeting with Christopher W. Smith, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Eastern Europe (EE) and Policy and Regional Affairs (PRA) in the US Department of State’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, with whom he discussed issues on the current bilateral agenda.
The foreign minister was accompanied during his visit by Igor Grosu, Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament.
