Moscow considers Macron's participation in BRICS summit unreasonable
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova believes that French President Emmanuel Macron's participation in the upcoming BRICS summit would not contribute to the achievement of the association's goals.
Zakharova noted that Russia has repeatedly stated that it is inappropriate for countries pursuing hostile policies against Moscow to participate in BRICS meetings, according to Kommersant.
"Our association was created to enhance the role of developing countries in a multipolar world and to develop collective, unifying directions for the agenda of the entire international community. We are convinced that the participation of the French President in the BRICS summit would in no way contribute to the fulfilment of these tasks. Unfortunately, it seems to me that France has nothing to offer to this association," she said.
In June, the French newspaper L`Opinion wrote that Emmanuel Macron had asked South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to allow him to attend the BRICS summit.
