Moscow, Havana move to resume air links
Russia and Cuba have reaffirmed their mutual interest in swiftly restoring direct air links between the two countries, following talks between Russian Deputy Transport Minister Alexander Poshivay and Cuban Deputy Transport Minister Marcos Antonio Bermudez de la Torre.
The meeting took place on April 1 on the sidelines of the International Transport and Logistics Forum, according to a statement released by the Russian Transport Ministry and cited by TASS.
Officials “emphasised mutual interest in the rapid restoration of air service between Russia and Cuba,” the ministry said.
Beyond aviation, the two sides confirmed their agreement to continue exploring alternative sources of financing for a project aimed at restoring Cuba’s railway infrastructure. They also reached an understanding on expanding cooperation in maritime cargo transportation.
As part of these efforts, Morsvyazsputnik will continue providing communications services for vessels operating under the Cuban flag.
In addition, the discussions focused on a project to establish a taxi fleet in Havana based on Moskvich vehicles.
