Moscow launches what it says is world’s longest tram route PHOTO
Moscow has launched a new tram line, T2, which city officials say is the longest urban diametrical tram route in the world.
According to the Moscow Department of Transport, the route runs from Chertanovskaya metro station to Novogireevo MCD-4 station, covering a total distance of 33 kilometres, Caliber.Az reports.
The T2 line links 13 districts across the capital and is expected to improve transport accessibility for more than two million residents. The route features 79 stops, with trams operating at six-minute intervals, the department said in a Telegram post.
Officials described Moscow’s tram diameters as operating to “surface metro” standards, reflecting efforts to integrate tram services into the wider urban transit network, including connections with the Moscow Metro.
Modern single-section “Lyovyonok-Moscow” trams and three-section “Vityaz-Moscow” vehicles are deployed on the new route.
