Moscow: New Western arms in Ukraine to be Russia's legitimate target

12 January 2023 16:23

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that any weapon that Western countries supply to Ukraine is a legitimate target for the Russian army.

Zakharova made the remarks in a weekly briefing on January 12 to comment on the upcoming arms supplies to Ukraine, Gazeta.Ru reports.

Russia sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine in November 2022.

Zakharova noted that the foreign military personnel providing this equipment are also legitimate targets for strikes by the Russian Armed Forces.

“If the West pretends not to know about it, that is its problem,” she said.

Meanwhile, she criticized Sweden's refusal to cooperate in the case of the terrorist attacks on the Nord Streams.

Sweden's refusal to cooperate with Russian law enforcement officers in the case of terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream - 2 gas pipelines is puzzling.

"Stockholm explains the refusal to respond, and in fact, to cooperate on issues raised by the Russian competent authorities, by saying that satisfying the Russian request would allegedly 'pose a threat to Sweden's security'," Zakharova said.

She also clarified that Stockholm had notified Moscow that the Swedish prosecutor's office was not interested in implementing the Russian proposal to create a joint group to investigate the sabotage. The spokesperson added that the Swedish side had not explained its decision.

"We consider ourselves as a party that has suffered significant damage, not to mention losses," Zakharova said.

According to her, what happened to the gas pipelines, for the construction of which Russia, among other things, made significant efforts, is colossal damage.

In this regard, Moscow has the right to receive information about what happened, and has the right to ask questions and get answers to them so that this does not happen in the future, Zakharova said.
