Kremlin: Moscow to assess Trump-Zelenskyy talks only after receiving US details
The Kremlin will evaluate the recent talks between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy only after receiving detailed information from the United States, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a briefing.
Peskov emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump did not discuss the possibility of a Christmas ceasefire in Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
He added that the decision necessary to halt fighting in Donbas rests with Kyiv, specifically through the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the administrative boundaries of the region. Peskov declined to comment on whether Moscow expects Ukrainian troops to also withdraw from the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The Kremlin further indicated that it is inadvisable to publicly comment on proposals for a free-trade zone in Donbas or joint management of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
“There is serious dissatisfaction in EU countries regarding leaders providing funds to Kyiv, but it is unlikely that these leaders will be ‘overthrown.’ Citizens of EU countries have little ability to remove their leaders, meaning they will have to endure such leadership until elections. Clearly, current EU leaders are likely to face significant challenges in upcoming elections,” Peskov said.
Addressing Zelenskyy’s remarks that Russia should prepare a “Plan B” in the conflict with Ukraine, the Kremlin expressed uncertainty about the Ukrainian president’s intentions. “Russia is considering the cessation of military conflict in the context of achieving its objectives,” Peskov said.
