New buildings in Aghdam ready to welcome returning residents PHOTO
A video circulating on social media captures newly constructed buildings in the redeveloping city of Aghdam, Caliber.Az reports.
The footage shows that the buildings are fully prepared to receive returning residents, marking another visible milestone in the “Great Return” to the Azerbaijani liberated territories.
Aghdam was liberated from Armenian occupation in November 2020 following the 44-day Second Karabakh War. Today, under President Ilham Aliyev's directive, Aghdam is being reborn as a "smart city" projected to house 100,000 residents by 2030, merging the urban centre with several surrounding villages.
The "Great Return" concept, launched after Azerbaijan's victory in the 2020 Karabakh war, represents one of the most ambitious post-conflict resettlement initiatives in modern history. Spearheaded by President Ilham Aliyev, the program aims to repatriate over 1 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) to Azerbaijan's territories liberated during the 2020 war and subsequent 2023 operations.
