New milestone in cooperation between Azerbaijan, EU Analytics by Report.az

Against the backdrop of the first meeting of the Committee on Politics and Security between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU), one can witness the opening of a new milestone in the relations of the parties.

During the fourth meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Security Dialogue held in Brussels and co-chaired by the Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Enrique Mora and Azerbaijani Presidential Aide Hikmat Hajiyev, the regional peace agenda was discussed.

Thus, at the meeting, which was attended by the ambassadors of the EU member states, detailed information was provided on the situation in the region, the installation of the Lachin border checkpoint and the regional peace agenda.

The meeting eyed issues of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, issues of regional security, and the role of the EU in maintaining peace and stability in the region, including constructive discussions on issues of mutual interest in the field of foreign policy, security and possible further cooperation, including cyber security and hybrid security, combating extremism and terrorism, as well as space activities.

The fact that these discussions took place in the political capital of Europe is an indicator of the formation of a new reality in the region, which everyone has already accepted.

In addition, Presidential Aide Hikmat Hajiyev held a bilateral meeting in Brussels with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security Affairs General David Cutler, where issues of bilateral cooperation, security, defence reforms and counterterrorism were discussed. Discussions around similar topics also took place during meetings with EU ambassadors. This once again proves that the Armenian propaganda is failing.

Azerbaijan is perceived as a reliable and important partner in the region. The above nuances are also reflected in the context of Enrique Mora's statement.

"The EU confirmed its interest in strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan on foreign and security policy issues, as well as its readiness to work for the benefit of peace, security and stability, especially in the current difficult international conditions caused by Russia's war against Ukraine. The EU is guided by the goal to contribute to maintaining a stable and peaceful South Caucasus. The key interest of the EU is to support the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The EU is ready to support the peace process, including in the trilateral Brussels format with the assistance of European Council President Charles Michel," Mora stressed.

The fact that, at the end of the meeting, the representatives of the EU and Azerbaijan agreed to continue a regular exchange of views on issues relevant to them and to the entire region, proved that the initiated dialogue took on a deeper and more irreversible character.

Another meeting of Hajiyev with Head of the EU Committee on Politics and Security Delphine Pronk also proved to be fruitful. The European diplomat wrote about this on Twitter.

"At their first meetings in this format, representatives of Azerbaijan and the Committee on Political Affairs and Security of the European Union held fruitful discussions on EU-Azerbaijan cooperation, the process of Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization and regional security," she wrote

Azerbaijan also attaches great importance to the development of relations with the member states of the European Union. The presence of a strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and a third of the EU members, and the establishment of mutually beneficial cooperation play a key role in the development of relations with the European Union.
