New school ready to welcome pupils after 32 years in Azerbaijan’s Khojaly
Director of Khojaly City Secondary School #1 for 132 pupils Navai Hasanov has said that the school is set to open for the 2024-2025 academic year.
“The school will serve children from 44 families who have been relocated to Khojaly. As the number of displaced families grows, the number of pupils will also increase at the school. The school is fully equipped with necessary resources. The school is housed in two buildings: one for classrooms and the other for sports and activities, including a library. All classrooms are prepared for lessons, and classes will commence on September 16. This marks the first time in 32 years that school #1 in Khojaly will host pupils,” he told journalists, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Hasanov also highlighted that textbooks provided by the State Examination Centre will introduce pupils to new content and aid in their exam preparation, making this an especially significant event for the community. Khojaly was liberated by Azerbaijan in September 2023 following local anti-terrorist operations that concluded with the surrender of separatists.
In response to appeals from the Armenian population in Karabakh through the Russian peacekeeping contingent, an agreement was reached to fully cease hostilities, and the local anti-terrorist operations were suspended at 13:00 (GMT+4) on September 20. As a result, Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity were fully restored. On October 15, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev raised the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Khojaly.
