Nighttime traffic ban to hit key Tbilisi highway for three days
Traffic in Georgia’s capital will be subject to temporary restrictions over the coming days due to planned safety works.
According to Tbilisi City Hall, cited by Georgian media, vehicle movement on the Chabua Amirejibi Highway (the Vake–Saburtala road) will be completely halted at night on November 14, 15, and 16. The measure is being introduced to allow crews to carry out planned rock-cleaning operations on a slope prone to rockfall.
The traffic ban will apply each night from 00:00 to 06:00 Tbilisi time.
City Hall noted that the Chabua Amirejibi Highway runs alongside a cliff where sections are considered high-risk in terms of falling rocks. For this reason, regular cleaning and monitoring of the debris accumulated at the base of the slope is conducted, and the upcoming work is part of this ongoing safety effort.
The restriction will cover the stretch from the tunnel at the intersection of the Chabua Amirejibi Highway and the Kakutsi Cholokashvili Highway up to Mikhail Tamarashvili Avenue.
During the closure hours, vehicles will be redirected onto alternative routes, including the Kakutsi Cholokashvili Highway as well as Sulkhan Tsintsadze and Mikhail Tamarashvili streets.
Tbilisi City Hall extended its apologies to residents and visitors of the capital for the inconvenience caused by the temporary measures.
