Norway pledges to bolster safety of Ukrainian NPP
Norway will strengthen the security of Ukrainian nuclear power plants and continue to counter the smuggling of radioactive materials.
TASS reports, citing Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide’s estimates that nuclear power plants are at risk because of the fighting in Ukraine.
"A nuclear incident could have serious consequences for both Ukraine and other European countries. Together with our partners, we will now bolster our work to ensure security around Ukrainian nuclear power plants and nuclear facilities. We will also continue to work to prevent smuggling of nuclear and other radioactive materials," the press service of the country's government quoted the minister as saying.
Eide added that the Norwegian authorities would also develop a new action plan to ensure Ukraine's nuclear safety and facilitate dialogue in this area.
On 16 June, the Norwegian government announced that it would allocate $100m to Kyiv to support its energy sector; since 2022, the country has already spent almost $380m for this purpose.
