Norway to significantly increase financial aid to Ukraine
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has announced plans to boost Norway's financial aid to Ukraine, increasing its annual contribution from $2.4 billion in 2023 to approximately $2.7 billion by 2025.
The announcement comes as part of Norway's continued commitment to support Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
In September, the Norwegian government extended its aid program to Ukraine until 2030, with plans to allocate an additional $475 million annually to Ukraine’s needs. With this new commitment, Norway’s total aid to Ukraine is projected to reach $12.8 billion by 2030, marking an increase of $5.7 billion.
However, the announcement has stirred debate within Norway, with disagreements surfacing between the center-left minority government and opposition parties over the scale of the financial assistance to be provided to Ukraine.
In addition to the financial support, Norway is set to supply Ukraine with six F-16 fighter jets between 2024 and 2025. Norway will also assist in training Ukrainian pilots in Denmark as part of the broader defence aid package aimed at strengthening Ukraine's military capabilities.
