NUFA3 2025: World’s urban experts gather in Khankendi to rethink cities and communities photo

15 October 2025 11:36

The III National Urban Forum of Azerbaijan (NUFA3) has officially commenced in Khankendi under the theme “Towards Climate-Resilient and Healthy Cities: Harnessing Regional Partnerships and Innovative Solutions.”

According to Caliber.Az, the forum serves as a platform to promote sustainable urban development with a focus on resilience, inclusivity, urban innovation, and healthy urban environments.

The forum addresses a wide range of contemporary urban challenges, including housing accessibility, post-conflict and disaster recovery, environmentally friendly construction practices, inclusive urban governance, digital innovations, nature-based solutions, and strengthening regional partnerships.

NUFA3 examines the contributions of national, regional, and local authorities, organisations, communities, academic institutions, the private sector, and other stakeholders in achieving climate-resilient and healthy cities through integrated planning, multi-sector cooperation, and the localisation of global frameworks such as the Paris Agreement, the New Urban Agenda, and the Sustainable Development Goals.

This year, NUFA3 welcomes over 200 participants from 64 countries, hosting around 400 participants in Khankendi. Since its inception, the Forum has steadily expanded in both reach and relevance – from 400 participants from 45 countries in 2022, to over 700 participants from 53 countries in 2023, and this year, receiving more than 1,250 participation requests. In Khankendi, more than 400 participants are attending, with an additional 500 expected to join the Baku session on October 17.

NUFA3 acts as a preparatory stage for WUF13 (World Urban Forum), fostering dialogue and collaboration between national and international partners committed to promoting sustainable urban and regional development, showcasing best international practices, and stimulating local action.

The forum is scheduled to conclude on October 17, 2025, with a series of discussions to be held in Baku.
