Official: Around 22,000 residents live in Khankendi, Aghdara, Khojaly
Around 22,000 people currently reside in the city of Khankendi, as well as in the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, Elchin Yusubov, Special Representative of Azerbaijan's President in these areas, has said.
He made the remarks during an event dedicated to the Day of Spiritual Values at Karabakh University, noting that among the residents are not only former internally displaced persons but also employees of state and private institutions, along with their family members, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“According to the plan, resettlement is being carried out gradually in the Karkijahan settlement of Khankendi, in 11 villages of the Khojaly district, and in 7 villages of the Aghdara district, as reconstruction and renovation works progress. Around 6,000 former internally displaced persons are expected to be resettled in these areas. At the same time, measures are underway to restore the local economy, ensure employment, and expand business activity in the region,” Yusubov stated.
He also emphasised that more than 65 million manats (around $38 million) have been allocated by investors to the liberated territories.
