Official: Azerbaijan needs 25 years to demine liberated lands

A senior adviser to the Azerbaijani presidential representative for the Karabakh economic region, Araz Imanov, has said that the country needs 25 years for demining territories liberated from Armenia's decades-long occupation.

"More than 66,000 mines and unexploded ordnance were found on these territories. Independent UN experts believe that there are about 1 million mines and unexploded ordnance on the liberated territories. It will take 25 years and $50 billion dollars to clean up [the liberated territories] completely," APA quotes Imanov as saying.

Araz Imanov noted that from November 2020 to the present, 530 million square metres of territory had been cleared of mines.
