Official: Kazakhstan suspends joint projects with Iran
Kazakhstan has suspended several joint projects with Iran, the Foreign Ministry has said, citing heightened geopolitical instability.
Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Issetov said at a briefing in the Senate that ongoing conditions had forced both sides to pause cooperation across several sectors, Caliber.Az reports.
“At present, as you understand, the situation is very complex. Many of our projects with Iran have been frozen due to the country being under a state of war,” Issetov said.
“In this regard, our businesses and entrepreneurs are currently in a waiting position.”
He noted that the suspended areas include grain supplies and joint initiatives in mutual food trade.
Issetov stressed that the economic impact on Kazakhstan remained limited, given the relatively modest scale of bilateral trade flows.
“Kazakhstan is not incurring major losses because the volumes were not large enough to significantly affect the country’s economic situation,” he said. “Nevertheless, given our good partnership with Iran, there is an effect, but I would say it is not substantial.”
