Official: Russia exploring possibility of restoring rail links with Georgia
Russia is exploring the possibility of restoring railway connections with Georgia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk told journalists.
According to him, work is underway “to unblock all disrupted routes in the Caucasus,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“This includes considering the possibility of restoring railway links between the Russian Federation and Georgia through the territory of Abkhazia,” the deputy prime minister said.
Overchuk also noted that restoring this route would address a “major task” of “strengthening transport and logistics connectivity in the Caucasus.” He stressed that this is “critically important for peace, stability, and economic prosperity of the peoples of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Türkiye, and Russia.”
The deputy prime minister added that Russia expects all countries in the region to cooperate constructively to achieve this “important common goal.”
