Olympic Committee moves to bar Indonesia from hosting events
The International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Executive Board (EB) has recommended that Indonesia be stripped of its right to host international tournaments.
It has also suspended talks on holding the Olympic Games in the country, Caliber.Az reports, citing the committee’s official website.
“To end any form of dialogue with the NOC of Indonesia about hosting future editions of the Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games, Olympic events or conferences until such time as the Indonesian government provides the IOC with adequate guarantees that it will allow access to the country for all participants, regardless of nationality, to attend,” the statement reads.
The IOC further recommends that all International Federations refrain from hosting international sporting events or meetings in Indonesia until the government provides sufficient assurances that all participants — regardless of nationality — will be granted access to the country.
It also calls for an update to the Olympic Games Qualification Principles, instructing International Federations to include explicit guarantees on participant access within hosting agreements for any Olympic qualification events worldwide.
Additionally, the IOC has invited the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to its headquarters in Lausanne to discuss the circumstances surrounding the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.
