Over 30 foreign travellers in Karabakh, East Zangazur to see devastations by Armenians
A delegation of more than 30 travellers from Club 100 visited Karabakh and East Zangazur on May 11.
The travellers, who have arrived from Sweden, will visit Azerbaijan's liberated territories within three days to see the devastation caused by Armenia during the nearly 30-year occupation and the progress of reconstruction, Report informs.
Over the past two years representatives of the main international traveller clubs - Etic, MTP, TCC, NomadMania and the Turkish Traveller Club - have visited Karabakh and East Zangazur. This trip is the seventh in a row.
As part of so-called “dark tourism”, it is important for raising global awareness of the situation in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
Sharing her views, visiting Swedish traveller Sofia Granstrom said that landmines prevent people from returning to Karabakh.
"It is very interesting to see with my own eyes the demining process, what is happening here, and the people who are clearing these territories of mines," she said.
Granstom said she had seen landmines before when she was in Cambodia.
She described the landmine problem as a great danger, preventing civilians from returning to the territories.
To recap, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry wrote on Twitter on May 1 that "the number of landmine victims in Azerbaijan reached 299 since the end of the 2020-war. The international community shouldn’t be silent about this continuing threat by Armenia".
