Pan-African activist: Baku elevates global awareness of French neocolonialism
Azerbaijan has grown tired of French arrogance, particularly its habit of offering recommendations and assessing human rights situations in other countries, said Kemi Seba, head of the NGO "Urgences Panafricanistes".
Speaking at the international conference "French Neocolonialism in Africa" in Baku, Seba highlighted France's tendency to ignore its own violations while criticising others, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to Seba, French authorities frequently accuse other states of human rights abuses, yet they themselves commit violations far more often, particularly against the black population.
Seba emphasised that France not only seeks to dictate terms to other countries but also neglects the issues faced by its current colonies.
Seba further explained that the participation of pan-Africanists in the conference in Baku was linked to their support for Azerbaijan, a former chair and active participant in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), in the fight for the independence of colonised peoples.
“Many who follow us live may wonder how pan-Africanists ended up in Baku, Azerbaijan. The answer is simple: Baku has become an important international platform where the issue of colonialism has been elevated to a global level. We have come here to continue our struggle for self-determination,” he added.
Meanwhile, journalist and communications specialist Abdurrahman Von said that, African countries are the primary victims of France's brutal colonial policies.
"We face discrimination and are treated like slaves. We believe we will triumph in this struggle against colonialism. I hope our communities will unite and discover effective ways to resist, ultimately achieving victory," he stated.
He remarked that women and children have borne the brunt of colonialism, which has robbed them of the chance to live freely and with dignity.
