Passenger plane crash in South Sudan kills 14, including pilot
A Cessna 208 Caravan passenger aircraft operated by CityLink Aviation crashed in South Sudan, killing all 14 people on board, according to the country’s civil aviation authority, as cited by Al Jazeera.
The aircraft had been carrying out a domestic flight from Yei to the capital, Juba, when contact with the crew was lost approximately 30 minutes after takeoff, aviation officials said.
The plane subsequently went down in the Luri area, located about 20 kilometres southwest of Juba.
Authorities confirmed that the aircraft was carrying 13 passengers and one pilot. Among the victims were 12 South Sudanese nationals and two Kenyan citizens. There were no survivors.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the crash may have been caused by adverse weather conditions, with low visibility identified as a likely contributing factor.
Rescue and investigative teams have been deployed to the crash site, where search and identification operations are currently ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the accident.
