Patriot & S-400 rival: Türkiye launches SIPER SAM system PHOTO
The Turkish Armed Forces will test the domestic SIPER long-range air defence system in the Black Sea.
According to Türkiye Gazetesi, the authorities have declared an 850-kilometre stretch of sea in their internal waters a no-fly zone.
The fire tests of the Siper SAM system will be conducted at a centre established at the Ministry of Defence for the HİSAR-U system.
If the test results are positive, the SIPER SAM will be used against aerial targets such as fighter jets and cruise missiles.
It can also destroy air-to-ground targets and engage ballistic missiles at later stages. In addition, the SIPER system will have several types of missiles. The Siper is expected to have a range of 70 kilometres.
In past tests, SIPER broke its own record by destroying a target at an altitude of 26,000-plus feet at a range of 90-plus kilometres.
The testing of Türkiye’s air defence system will be conducted to defend the country against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, internal turmoil in Africa, Syrian and Iranian issues.
