Peskov says no plans to hold Ukraine talks in Azerbaijan
Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to the President of Russia, said there are currently no discussions about using Azerbaijan as a venue for negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine.
According to TASS, Peskov made the remarks to reporters while commenting on a recent statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding Kyiv’s readiness to consider Azerbaijan as a possible location for talks.
“There is no talk of this yet,” Peskov said.
Zelenskyy had earlier proposed holding negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Azerbaijan during a working visit to the country on April 25. He reiterated the idea in a press statement delivered alongside Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in Gabala.
“We have informed President Ilham Aliyev about our readiness for trilateral talks. Such talks took place in Türkiye. Later, talks were held in Switzerland with the participation of our American partners. Of course, we are ready to hold similar talks in Azerbaijan in the near future, if Russia is ready for diplomatic efforts,” Zelenskyy noted.
