Pezeshkian: Iran ready to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed Tehran’s readiness to act as a mediator between Pakistan and Afghanistan to help resolve their disputes.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where Pezeshkian described Iran–Pakistan relations as warm and exceptional, built on brotherhood and mutual trust, Caliber.Az reports via IRNA.
The president said he was confident that cooperation between the two nations could serve as an example for others and help further strengthen regional ties.
Speaking at the 4th Meeting of Interior Ministers of Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Member States in Tehran on October 28, Pezeshkian highlighted the deep historical and religious bonds between the two countries, noting that Iranians consider Pakistanis their brothers and welcome close and sincere cooperation.
Pezeshkian also emphasised the need to reduce tensions and prevent conflicts in the region, reaffirming Iran’s readiness to facilitate dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan. “Today, more than ever, it is essential for Muslim countries to stand together in unity and brotherhood against common enemies,” he added.
Naqvi praised Iran’s hospitality and the successful organisation of the ECO meeting, noting that it was his fourth visit to Iran this year — a sign of the depth of bilateral relations. He recalled President Pezeshkian’s historic visit to Pakistan and described relations between the two countries as excellent, expressing hope that the agreements reached would yield tangible results.
The Pakistani minister also pointed to progress in border cooperation and counterterrorism, calling the joint efforts successful and addressing shared challenges related to illegal immigration.
In conclusion, Naqvi expressed appreciation for Iran’s principled stance and welcomed its active role in easing tensions, particularly between Islamabad and Kabul, reaffirming his commitment to continued close cooperation.
