Poland says US may decide on increasing military presence in coming weeks
The United States could decide within weeks to increase its military presence in Poland, according to Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
In an interview with Rzeczpospolita, the minister said discussions with the Pentagon over the size and structure of the US military contingent in Poland are ongoing, with both sides maintaining regular contact at military and diplomatic levels.
“The decision will likely be made much sooner. The planning process will be completed within a few weeks or a few months,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said when asked about the timeline.
He added that the United States is currently reviewing its broader military posture in Europe and that Warsaw expects its position to be taken into account in the final decisions.
Poland has previously proposed establishing a permanent US military base on its territory. At present, around 10,000 US troops are stationed in the country, primarily on a rotational basis.
