Poland to officially ask Germany for reparations for World War II
Head of the Polish Law and Justice party Jarosław Kaczynski has said that Poland will officially demand reparations from Germany for World War II.
"The decision was made to apply for reparations to Germany. It is a Polish duty to report about them," Polish economic and legal daily Rzeczpospolita quotes Kaczynski as saying.
According to Polish authorities, 5.2 million Poles died, with property damage totalling 797.398 million Polish zloty ($168.944 million), cultural property totalling 19.310 million Polish zloty ($4.091 million), and banking losses totalling 89.321 million Polish zloty ($18.924 million). Losses from insurance total 34.8 billion Polish zloty ($7.373 billion).
All subsidiaries were estimated at 6.2 trillion Polish zloty ($1.317 trillion).
MP from the Law and Justice party Arkadiusz Mularczyk said that the amount in the report on war reparations that Poland should receive from Germany is more than $850 billion.
In total, 21.3 per cent of the Polish people died in World War II.
