Poland to produce thousands of Barracuda missiles annually
Poland’s state-owned defence group Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) and Military Aviation Works No. 2 have signed an agreement with US company Anduril Industries to establish a production line for Barracuda cruise missiles in Poland, Poland’s Ministry of National Defence has announced.
It said the deal was signed in the city of Bydgoszcz in the presence of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Caliber.Az reports.
The project envisages the annual production of several thousand Barracuda-500M missiles. The defence ministry said this would become one of the first large-scale production lines in Europe for a new class of low-cost cruise missiles.
The Barracuda-500M is a high-precision subsonic long-range cruise missile developed as a more affordable alternative to the U.S.-made Tomahawk missile.
According to its developers, the missile is based on a modular unmanned aerial vehicle platform and can carry a warhead of around 45 kilograms.
Its range exceeds 900 kilometres, allowing it to strike targets deep inside enemy territory.
