Polish authorities detain officials in long-running bribery, fraud case
Polish authorities have detained seven officials from the communications department of the regional administration and the Wrocław city council over their alleged involvement in a long-running corruption scheme linked to vehicle registration, RMF FM reports.
Investigators say the officials accepted bribes and gifts in exchange for illegally registering vehicles, including those lacking complete documentation and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) that were not authorized for road use. Authorities have so far confirmed that the illicit gains exceeded 100,000 zlotys (approximately $27,700), in addition to in-kind benefits such as free vehicle repairs.
According to investigators, the scheme operated over an extended period and served as a steady source of income for those involved. The seven detainees now face up to 10 years in prison.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have indicated that further arrests are possible as the probe continues.
