Politico: Ukraine fades from White House agenda as Iran takes priority
US officials can no longer recall when Ukraine was last discussed at the White House, as Iran became the top priority, according to Politico.
A senior White House official said President Donald Trump has shown reduced interest in coordinating with NATO allies on Ukraine, amid European reluctance to support US actions against Iran.
The main US negotiators on Ukraine—presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner—are now largely focused on Iran, although some contacts with Russian and Ukrainian counterparts continue.
UK Prime Minister’s national security adviser Jonathan Powell has also faced difficulties communicating with the US administration and “doesn’t know who to call anymore,” as Witkoff’s efforts have shifted toward Iran.
According to sources, dialogue between the two administrations has suffered because the White House’s attention is focused elsewhere, and in “retaliation” for the British stance on Iran.
Another source said Powell’s attempts to raise Ukraine with US counterparts are “hurting him,” while White House officials are “icing him out a little bit.”
