Pope's surgeon investigated in Rome for forgery
Pope Francis' surgeon, Sergio Alfieri, ended up in the register of suspects of the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of forgery in a public deed: he allegedly signed the register of surgical interventions but in many cases he was not the one who operated on those patients.
All this at the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome, the hospital known to all as that of the Pope, The Limited Times reports.
According to the Turin newspaper, at the origin of the investigation there is a complaint dated February 9 delivered to the investigative leaders of the NAS that gives voice to the discontent in the waiting room: Alfieri signs the operations of several patients at the same times.
On the basis of those indications, the NAS has acquired dozens of medical records and as many folders, both paper and digital, from the health directorate. The entire reconstruction starts in July 2022 and the hypothesis being investigated is that of a proven system that, thanks to the alternation of signatures in the operating register, would allow the surgeon to perform multiple operations privately. According to La Stampa, dates have been discovered when Alfieri was in the operating room but was actually present at conferences and internal meetings at the Gemelli.
