President Aliyev ratifies agreement with Russia on North-South Corridor
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed an order approving a cooperation agreement between Azerbaijan and Russia aimed at enhancing transit freight traffic along the North-South international transport corridor.
Under the order, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan has been tasked with ensuring the implementation of the agreement once it comes into force, Caliber.Az reports, via the president's press service.
Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to notify the Russian government that Azerbaijan has completed the necessary internal procedures for the agreement’s entry into force. The agreement was signed on December 21, 2024 in Moscow.
To recall, the North-South International Transport Corridor (ITC) is a key multimodal route that connects Northern Europe with the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean states. Established through an agreement signed in 2000 by Russia, Iran, and India, the corridor now includes participation from 12 countries.
It encompasses three main routes: the western route along the Caspian Sea's western shore, the eastern route through Kazakhstan, and the trans-Caspian route across the Caspian Sea.
